Miami Art walk

Wynwood Art Walk 2011

Hello my gorgeous people!
Known for its underground art community, Wynwood Art District Miami is home to hundreds of art galleries, starving street artists, Miami Funk fashion week, live entertainers, music venues, and hundreds of other art and culture events that are held every year here. Thankfully, the district celebrates its art culture by throwing a bloc party every second saturday of every month known as "Miami Art Walk". On this particular night, it doesn't matter if you drive a Benz or peddle a 1983 Schwinn to the event, art lovers come from all over with diverse cultures and lifestyles to celebrate. Whether to buy, sell, network, discover, promote, admire or simply grab free alcohol and ice cream, Wynwood's Art walk bloc party does it all in one night. Finally found the perfect opportunity to go with my photographer friend and hit the streets of Wynwood. It was a night full of inspiration and admiration for those who put their passion before anything. Not to mention, the incredible mix of great fashion of art goers. Check out the pics!
With Love,
Nikki

Fashions Night Out Miami 2011

Aventura Mall
Miami welcomed a new year of fashion by participating in the 3rd annual Fashion's Night Out on Thursday night by opening it's top shops to our fashion fiends. All over the world, beautifully adorned people came virtually together to celebrate our passion for fashion and our terrible need of expressing it over cocktails and retail sales. Over 75 retailers participated in this one night of complete indulgence and celebration of decades of great fashion. Me and my girlfriend, Yoshi, rated Miami's Aventura Mall as we scouted for complimentary champagne and of course, cookies! I was in a daze as the DJ spun to a Pitbull club mix in Neiman Marcus while we walked through the shoe department analyzing, critiquing and admiring stilettos like an art gallery. I tried Oh S0 HaRd not to touch them with my frost-smudged fingers from stuffing my face with bite-sized cupcakes. Seriously, whoever thought of distributing sweets to a bunch of fashion fiends ready to spurge is a genius.  Every store had their own complimentary goodies and welcomed all the fashionistas as they raided through sales. Later that night after practically overdosing on cupcakes, we showed face at the Bal Harbour shops. We figured we we'd pay tribute to the night as much as we could ^_^ . The Bal Harbour crowd was a little more high-end and photographers were scoping out any high-profile attendees. Of course, by the last half of the night, gentlemen had loosened up their silk skinny ties and ladies had an extra lean to their catwalk (alchies!). Nevertheless, it was a successful night for us.

Beat the Heat!

Hello my gorgeous people!

Most of you may be experiencing this heat wave sweeping across the country, but that doesn't mean you can't beat it. I know 100-degree weather is pretty intimidating (especially here in Miami), but there are still ways you can outsmart the heat and look nevertheless, fabulous. Here are some must-haves when it comes to battling with the scorching heat!

1. unscented sun protection! This Aveeno hydrosport is really light weight and will block those intense sun rays from burning your skin regardless of complexion color.  They also have a light-weight facial one that is 30 SPF.

2. A great accessory to optimize your whole look is some head gear. A hat serves it's dual purpose of protecting your face and sealing your swag! Depending on your style, choose your favorite kind of hat and make it your best friend this summer. This is one that you'll see everywhere but still one of my favorites!

3. If it's one material that is absolutely essential in my closet each summer, is Linen! Not only does it let my body breathe but it's very flattering too. You can dress Linen up or down with adding the right accessories. Some other great materials trending are crotchet and chiffon!
4.  I have a thing for dressing up my water bottles in cute sleeves and snagging thermals with abstract prints. For weather that would probably melt your rubber soles right into the cement your walking on, it's crucial to stay hydrated. Of course, as fashionistas, we can't just walk around with a blue label of Zephyrhills. Thank God someone thought of us. You can drink your preferred water (spring, purified, sparkling, tap) from a thermal with your favorite patterns and art on them. Here are some of my favorite kinds!

5. Let's not forget about fighting back the humidity with some great protection for our hair. During extreme weather changes and aggression, our hair gets beat up and we end up looking like Cramer from Seinfeld. Whether it's straight, curly, thick or thin, it definitely needs to be protected. This product by Kerastase is awesome. It's a little costly but when it comes my hair, I can't really put a cap on it. Nevertheless, whatever hair brand you follow religiously, make sure it protects from hair-damaging conditions. Also, instead of a regular pony tail, try a side braid to lock up your hair from the weather :)

With Love,
Nikki
